My impression of all three days

Postby stefnick » Mon Jun 28, 2010 2:50 am

This was my thoughts on all 3 days.

The Organization
It seemed you guys had a hard time starting up Saturday, it seem the staff was running late. But other than that I thought everything ran pretty smoothly from my perspective. It did seem like some of the panels cancelled or changed. Usually in the morning, but it wasn’t too much of that.

The Staff
My opinion was favorable, I found them helpful, but a couple of my friends wasn’t so impressed, and was a little frustrated with them when they asked them for help.

The Schedule
But the one thing I have to point out is the schedule. It was kind of frustrating to wonder what the heck so-and-so panels was about and then looking to find that there was no description in the con’s pamphlet. I had a hard time guessing what the heck amigurumi and the like was let alone whether or not I would be interested in participating. And some of the event was under a different name on the schedule than the pamphlet, which was kind of confusing.

The Guest
I enjoyed that I had multiply chances to meet the guest. It’s nice that I didn’t have one chance and one chance only to get autographs and sit in on their panels. I enjoyed the guests.

The Dealers Room
Limited selection but it was nice to have a significant space in the dealers’ room to just stand around and not always get in people’s way. Annoyingly, the dealers’ space doesn’t allow for much growth, though, with getting crammed but that’s okay. Though there were few dealers they had nice amount of goods worth buying. I enjoy getting deals off anime and manga, stuff was pretty cheap.

The Panels
Nice variety of panels, though I hate that some of the panels seemed completely empty, kind of felt bad. But I guess that more because it was a small con. I like there was always something interesting to do and see. Had a hard time being completely bored.

The Venue
I had a hard time finding all the panel rooms at first. It was like a freaking maze with secret rooms and unknown spaces to explore. I had kind of a hard time reading the hotel map that was provided, but I got the swing of things quick enough. It was pretty nice temperature in the hotel. Plently of rooms with stuff to do and they were spacious enough. Plenty of places to sit and hang out. Like that there is a restaurant in the hotel, that’s always a plus, and vending machines, even though the one I was using was ‘out of order’ by day three. Hotel was very clean and it didn’t ever smelled like a con which is a good thing.

The Traffic
The was plenty of walking, except for the hall with the artist alley, the main room, and panel # 1 which got a little too congested at times, and it was kind of a pain getting by and to browse the artist tables without constantly being in someone’s way.

The Atmosphere
Fun, relaxed. Everyone I came across was friendly and seem like they were having fun, though I wish that pool was open. Usually the thing that makes a con fun is the people.

Personal Highlights
Anime - Thank you for showing some. I even discovered a new favorite. I just personally wish the anime was played dubbed, but it seem like the guy running it would have changed language track if enough people requested it. Again this is just a personal gripe. I’m just glad you had, it was nice and relaxing to sit and watch anime with friends and strangers. This is my go to place when I had too much downtime.

Maid/ Butler Café- Fun idea, I had great time with the people I was sitting with, we only had the chance to be with two butlers, it seem they lost track of the time, but again I had fun with that regardless.

Voice Actors Panels – I just like voice actors personally and they seemed like cool people. I found them entertaining and informative. Again thanks for having various opportunities to see them. I can’t stress that enough.

Bands – I only was able to stay for Beyond Atomic, they were pretty good. I hate that everyone seem to be just staring at them blankly, but whatever. Having entertainment like that was nice; I just hope you guys don’t get frustrating with it in the future. Keep the focus on anime is all I ask.

Closing Ceremonies – was fun. I like when they sang the Pokemon theme song.

PokeTranny – um, yeah…

Charity – Such a good idea, the raffle was fun, though it could be because I actually won stuff.^_^ No, it was fun helping out. The tech staff was quick during the closing ceremonies with the typing up the raffle numbers on the projected screen, such a small thing, but it was worth mention.

Artist Alley - so many very talented artist, and they were fun to talk to.

So to summarize you guys did a great job and my negatives are really minor personal grips for the most part. I had a fun time. Thanks for showing my best friend a great con experience, it was her first anime conventions she ever attended. The level of my enjoyment was pretty steady throughout the entire weekend. Great first con, so glad that you able to go for another year, maybe I’ll help out, too next year. Whatever I do, I'm sure to come 2011. Keep it up.

I agree. That Poke-tranny dude was kind of weird.

Thanks for the feedback!
